Hello and Welcome to Biscuits & Savvy! It doesn’t get more southern than biscuits and gravy, right?
My name is Dene’ V. Alexander. I am a lawyer by day and a chef by night, morning, afternoon, really any time I can find to fit cooking in my schedule. Born and reared in Texas (you raise cattle and rear children), in 2009, I moved to North Carolina to pursue a law degree. Because of that and having been in North Carolina for 6 years, I like to consider myself a North Carolinian by way of Texas.
As a little girl growing up, I thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the kitchen cooking. Really, it was just me finding a reason to share a few extra moments with my dad. Shhhhhh, don’t tell my mom. Little did I know that quality time spent in the kitchen cooking would blossom into such a unique gift. As a daddy’s girl, I now look back and have a great appreciation for my dad having the patience to allow me partake in cooking with him at every opportunity. I even got a few fabulous recipes, absent measurements, out of the deal! 🙂
Isn’t it amazing and a great feeling once you begin to learn, experience and grow your talents? It’s even better when they all come together on the table, no pun intended. I am still in awe of how mine are coming together. Many people always ask me where in the world I find time to run a law firm and also cook. My response – you always make time to do the things you love! I genuinely believe that is true with everything in life, whether it be friends, significant others, hobbies, etc. Other hobbies I make time for are crocheting, shooting and fishing. It’s my goal to add hunting this year. What hobbies and/or passions do you make time for in your life?
Take the leap of faith with me and join me on this journey of Biscuits & Savvy: Practical Cooking from Dene’s Kitchen. I won’t let you down!
P.S. – I love and welcome your feedback and suggestions in all I do. Use the Contact Us! page to tell me what I’m doing right or what I can improve on.
